Lightscreen v2.0 Portable

Lightscreen v2.0 Portable

Capturing the images on the desktop can be an annoying task if you use the common method of pushing the “Print Screen” button on the keyboard and pasting the image in an editor. Lightscreen is a small tool that was created to help you perform this task a lot easier.

The app has a simple interface that is quite easy to figure out, thanks to the intuitive interface.

Portable Lightscreen can grab the image of the entire screen, a certain window or a screen area. The program comes with some keyboard shortcuts to help you perform all these tasks, but you can modify them however you want. By default, only “Capture the screen” is enabled, but this can be changed very easily.

The program lets you define an output directory and the default file format for the screenshot. The app supports several image types, such as JPG, PNG and BMP. The quality of the image may also be modified with the help of a slider.

Furthermore, it’s possible to alter several other settings. For instance, the program’s interface can hide while taking a screenshot, the cursor can be included in the screenshot, the image copied to clipboard and the PNG files optimized.

The bottom line is that Lightscreen is a nice utility that can come in handy quite often. Inexperienced users should find the app easy to use, thanks to the intuitive layout.

Once installed, the app will open at its Options screen – from here set your default save directory, filename and file type (JPG, PNG or BMP). Switch to the Hotkeys tab to set up the various keyboard triggers for capturing. Lightscreen lets you capture the entire screen, a selected area, the active window or – from version 2 – a selected window from those shown.

Use the Options tab to fine-tune its settings and enable a preview (300 pixels by default) of your captures, then click OK to get started. From here it’s simply a case of using the small pop-up window, pressing the requisite hotkeys or triggering Lightscreen from its System tray icon.

Lightscreen is a simple, lightweight tool with some clever touches – as you select part of the screen for an area-based capture you’re shown the dimensions of your capture, plus can resize or move it before accepting or rejecting the shot.

There is room for improvement – there’s no option for including the screen cursor in your capture, for example, but Lightscreen already has the makings of an incredibly useful tool for taking those all-important screenshots.

Version 2 adds the following new features:
+ Screenshot Previews.
+ Screenshot uploading to imgur.
+ History.
+ Revamped area mode with resizing and improved zooming.
+ Reorganized options menu.
+ Naming improvements.
+ Linux compatibility.
+ Many tweaks, fixes and miscellaneous improvements.
